More than 5,000 residents of Liepaja had cast their ballots before election day, with the busiest polling stations on Saturday located in the city centre, LSM reported, citing TV Kurzeme.

Voter Ziedonis said he had not reviewed the candidate lists but believed voting was necessary. “If you live in Latvia, in Liepaja, you have to be a patriot,” he said.

Daniels Sergejs said he had decided quickly after looking at the parties and wanted significant change in the next Saeima, Latvia’s parliament. Ingrida said she hoped elected representatives would recognise their mistakes and make the right decisions.

Anastasija said she had voted for people she believed were capable of doing good things, adding that the results and the new governing coalition would be most important. Sandra said she did not want major change and hoped those people trusted by voters would remain in parliament and government.

Latvia held elections for its 15th Saeima on Saturday, October 3. Polling stations in Latvia and abroad were open from 8am to 8pm local time. Voters could submit ballots for safekeeping at polling stations from September 28 until election day. The newly elected parliament is due to hold its first sitting on November 3, when the 14th Saeima’s term ends.
