Turnout reaches 25.43% in Latvia’s parliamentary election
More than 396,000 voters had participated in Latvia’s 15th Saeima election by noon on Saturday, bringing turnout to 25.43%, LSM reported, citing Central Election Commission figures from 976 of 1,059 polling stations.
At least 226,000 eligible voters had cast ballots by noon. More than 169,600 had voted in advance, while nearly 5,000 had applied to vote by post. The commission includes advance and postal voting in its turnout figures.
The State Digital Development Agency said the election platform was operating steadily and as planned. Expanded opportunities to cast ballots in advance helped increase participation, according to the report.
Polling stations in Latvia and abroad are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. local time. The newly elected Saeima is due to convene for its first sitting on November 3, when the current parliament’s term ends.
