Lithuania has joined a joint statement on implementing United Nations Security Council sanctions on Iran, LRT reported, citing the Foreign Ministry.
The statement by countries participating in the Proliferation Security Initiative marks one year since the sanctions were restored. Lithuania said it joined in support of international efforts to strengthen the nuclear non-proliferation regime.
France, Germany and the United Kingdom launched the mechanism to restore sanctions in August 2025, saying Iran was failing to meet its obligations under the 2015 nuclear deal. After the Security Council did not adopt a decision on September 27 last year to continue lifting the sanctions, all previous resolutions and the sanctions regime came back into force.
The statement renews the countries’ commitment to implement Security Council resolutions and prevent the spread of nuclear weapons, their delivery systems and related materials. It also calls on Iran to meet its obligations and cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency.
