Nearly 3,000 take part in Klassikaraadio’s Music Day quiz
Nearly 3,000 people took part in Klassikaraadio’s annual Music Day quiz, the Estonian Public Broadcasting outlet ERR reported. The event was held for the 30th time.
Participants ranged in age from eight to 83, and 178 answered all the questions correctly. Schools across Estonia took part as classes, including Elva Gymnasium, Jüri School, Tallinn Music and Ballet School and Tartu Descartes School.
The 15-question multiple-choice quiz focused on musicians and ensembles marking their 100th anniversaries, events from a century ago and other topics connected with the number 100. Questions were accompanied by audio, video and photographs. Klassikaraadio editors wrote the questions.
The question most participants answered correctly asked who was singing in a video clip. Some 81% identified 11-year-old Ingel Mikk, who performs under the name An-Marlen. In 2010, she sang Olav Ehala’s “Mermaid Song”, with lyrics by Leelo Tungal, on the television programme “Laulukarussell”.
The hardest question asked how composer Eduard Tubin received Arvo Pärt’s birthday greeting in 1980. Thirty-two percent knew it had appeared on June 14 that year in Teataja, a newspaper for Estonians abroad in Sweden. About 1,300 participants instead thought Pärt had recorded a musical greeting at Estonian Radio’s Studio 1, which Tubin heard on the radio.
Concert and theatre tickets, cinema passes, recordings and annual subscriptions to cultural publications were raffled among the top scorers. Participating schools also entered a draw for the main musical prize: a group singing session led by jazz musicians Susanna Aleksandra Veldi and Karl Madis Pennar.
