Aleksei Jašin leaves Eesti 200 to join Social Democrats
Aleksei Jašin, who has been a member of Eesti 200, is joining the Social Democratic Party and will run in Tallinn in the next parliamentary election, ERR reports.
Jašin told Delfi that he had discussed his political future with both Eesti 200 and the Reform Party, but chose the Social Democrats because of their political outlook and the issues he cares about. He said the party had consistently paid considerable attention to education.
Jašin said he had supported Eesti 200 joining forces with the Greens after last year’s local elections. He was disappointed that the party began working on the move too late in the current election cycle.
He said his decision was not only about whether Eesti 200 could cross the election threshold. If the party won just five percent of the vote, he considered his own chances of entering parliament on its list to be low.
Jašin ran in Tallinn’s Lasnamäe district in the 2025 local elections. Despite having served as a deputy mayor, he received 291 votes and was not elected.
