Lithuania turns back eight migrants at Belarus border
Lithuanian border guards turned back eight migrants who tried to cross illegally from Belarus in the past 24 hours, LRT reported on Friday, citing the State Border Guard Service.
Latvian border guards turned back 25 migrants on Thursday. Poland recorded no attempted illegal crossings on Tuesday.
Lithuania has prevented more than 1,600 irregular migrants from entering the country this year. Last year, people tried to cross from Belarus at unauthorised locations more than 1,600 times; the year before, there were 1,002 such attempts.
The flow of migrants from Belarus to the EU’s eastern members began in 2021. Western countries accuse the Minsk regime of organising it.
