A woman has been detained in a case involving the alleged rape of a 12-year-old girl in Vidzeme, bringing the number of people facing proposed charges to two, LSM reports.
Police said an adult man had sexual relations with the girl, exploiting her helplessness, and she became pregnant. The man, born in 2003, was arrested on February 14. Investigators say a woman, born in 1994, knew about the crime against the child but did not report it. She was detained on February 20.
The police received information on February 11 that a girl born in 2013 had sought help at a medical facility and was found to be pregnant.
The criminal case was sent to the Vidzeme District Prosecutor’s Office on September 21 for prosecution. It includes charges under provisions covering rape resulting in serious consequences or rape of a person under 16, as well as failure to report a crime.
Police said no one is considered guilty until guilt has been proven under the law. To protect the girl, authorities have not disclosed which town or village she is from or other details of the case.
