Diana, a student who lives in Salaspils and studies in Riga, is calling on politicians to provide practical support for young people and encourage them to stay in Latvia, LSM reports.
Raised in a bilingual family, Diana hopes politicians will avoid using hate-speech narratives and instead encourage young people to build their future in Latvia.
Most of her friends have left to study abroad. One friend studies and works in the Netherlands, where young people receive state support if they study and work and live independently, and can use public transport free of charge.
“Politicians, please develop a support system for young people with specific benefits, or at least expand the groups eligible for the Studētgods scholarship, so we feel important here,” Diana said.
