Police remand two youths over Daugavpils shooting-range gun theft

Two minors have been remanded in custody after allegedly stealing firearms from a shooting range in Daugavpils on Sunday, September 27, LSM reported.

The firearms have been recovered. Police launched criminal proceedings over the theft and are also examining whether the shooting-range instructor breached regulations on storing and carrying firearms.

Police said the youths were detained at a Hesburger fast-food restaurant. They are from Priedīte, a multifunctional social care centre that also operates a children’s crisis centre, and had previously come to police attention.

Police sought a detention order for both youths on September 29, and the court granted the request. The search operation involved State Police officers, including members of its Special Tasks Battalion, and Daugavpils municipal police.
