Kiili and Kunnas to run for Centre Party in parliamentary election

Independent members of the Estonian parliament Meelis Kiili and Leo Kunnas will run on the Centre Party list in next March’s parliamentary election, ERR reports. Kiili said shared views on security and social development were important in his decision.

Kiili said he would work with the Centre Party but would not join it. He said the party had approached him and Kunnas together about working on security issues.

Kiili said he decided to run after presenting his programme and vision to the party leadership. He called for bringing society together on defence, saying security also depends on the economy and social ties, not only military defence.

Kiili said he had not yet agreed where he would run. He is from Ida-Viru County and lives there. He said other parties had also made offers, but he did not hold talks with them.

Kiili said he and Kunnas had found common ground while serving on parliament’s National Defence Committee, despite representing different parliamentary groups. The Centre Party said it would introduce the MPs planning to work with its parliamentary group and run on its list.
