Police send case involving 14 girls to prosecutor

Latvian police have completed an investigation into a man suspected of committing 20 sex-related offences against 14 underage girls between August 2024 and February 2026, LSM reported. The case was sent to the Riga Northern Prosecutor’s Office on September 25, with police proposing that the man be prosecuted.

The suspect, born in 1984, had previously been convicted of circulating child pornography. Police say he contacted girls he did not know through Snapchat and WhatsApp, discussed sexual topics with them and asked them to take and send photos or videos of their naked bodies. In one case, he encouraged a girl to meet him for sexual activity.

The investigation began on October 6, 2025, after a woman reported that an adult had sent sexual messages to her nine-year-old daughter on Snapchat and asked her to send a photograph of her genitals. Police identified the suspect and detained him on February 26, 2026. He was placed in custody the following day.

Information gathered in the case identified 14 underage victims, who were between eight and 16 years old when the alleged offences took place. Police also found 32 files containing child pornography on data storage devices seized from the suspect.

Police are seeking prosecution for 20 offences, including two classified as especially serious, 15 as serious and three as less serious.
