Lithuania turns back 15 migrants at Belarus border

Lithuanian border guards turned back 15 people attempting to enter the country illegally from Belarus over the past day, the State Border Guard Service said Tuesday, LRT reported.

Latvian border guards turned back 51 migrants on Monday. No attempts to cross illegally were recorded at the Polish border on Sunday.

Lithuania has denied entry to more than 1,600 irregular migrants so far this year. Last year, people tried more than 1,600 times to enter the country from Belarus at unauthorised locations; the year before, there were 1,002 such attempts.

The influx of migrants from Belarus to the EU’s eastern member states began in 2021. Western countries accuse the Minsk regime of organising it.
