Forecaster expects calm, warm week in Lithuania

Lithuania is set for several calm, autumnally warm days, with temperatures reaching 20 degrees Celsius or higher in some places, LRT reports, citing forecaster Teresė Kaunienė of the Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service. A weak weather front is expected midweek, but little rain is forecast.

Tuesday night will be mostly clear and dry, with fog in some places. Temperatures will range from 4 to 9 degrees Celsius, and from 10 to 12 degrees on the Curonian Spit. Soil-level frost of up to 2 degrees below zero is possible in parts of the southeast.

Tuesday will bring variable cloud cover, with rain unlikely across most of the country. A few drops may fall in the north late in the day. Southeasterly winds will reach 4 to 9 metres per second, while daytime temperatures rise to 17 to 22 degrees. Southern Samogitia and the Užnemunė region are expected to be warmest.

A weak cold front will move in from the north on Wednesday, bringing more cloud and light rain in some places. Overnight rain is most likely in northern and eastern districts, while a few brief showers are possible during the day. Temperatures will fall to 5 to 10 degrees overnight in the clearer south, with light frost possible at ground level in Varėna and Šalčininkai districts. Daytime highs will reach 15 to 20 degrees.

On Thursday, cloud will clear as Lithuania comes under the influence of a Scandinavian anticyclone. No rain is expected. Overnight temperatures will range from 6 to 11 degrees, with daytime highs of 16 to 19 degrees and up to 20 or 21 in some southwestern districts.

Friday will remain dry, but temperatures will start to fall. Overnight lows will be 3 to 8 degrees, around 10 degrees on the coast, with ground frost of up to 3 degrees below zero possible in places, particularly in the east. Daytime temperatures will reach 15 to 20 degrees, and may be slightly higher in the southwest.

Saturday is expected to be sunny and calm, with temperatures of 15 to 20 degrees during the day and 3 to 8 degrees overnight. Rain and slightly cooler daytime weather are forecast for Sunday.
