Candidates debate free higher education in LSM election video

LSM has published a video in which candidates in Latvia’s 15th Saeima elections answer whether the country should introduce free higher education.

The video is part of the “Politicians’ quick test”, a series produced by LSM together with its Youth Content Editorial Team. The series asks candidates for prime minister and parliament to give short answers to important questions.

The participants are Ainārs Šlesers of Latvia First, Jūlija Stepaņenko of Sovereign Power and the New Latvians Alliance, Daniels Āboliņš of We Change the Rules, Andris Šuvajevs of the Progressives, Daiga Mieriņa of the Union of Greens and Farmers, Arvils Ašeradens of New Unity, Jānis Grasbergs of the National Alliance, Andris Kulbergs of the United List, Svetlana Čulkova of Stability!, and Ivars Ijabs of Latvia’s Development.

Representatives of parties that received at least 2% support in SKDS party ratings in July and August were invited to take part.

LSM said it would publish the “Politicians’ quick test” twice a week during the pre-election period.

The 15th Saeima elections will take place on October 3. Polling stations will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and voters will be able to cast their ballots at any polling station.
