Lithuania to buy naval gun systems for €5.8 million

Lithuania’s Defence Resources Agency has signed a €5.8 million contract with British defence company MSI-Defence Systems Ltd to acquire 30 mm Sea Hawk DS30M gun systems, LRT reported, citing the Ministry of National Defence.

The systems will protect ships operated by the Lithuanian Armed Forces’ Naval Forces against aerial threats, including drones, drone swarms and other airborne targets.

The Sea Hawk DS30M uses Airburst technology and programmable ammunition. The agreement also covers research and experimental development in electromagnetic warfare and surveillance systems, as well as the integration of the guns.

The systems are intended to strengthen the ships’ capabilities for peacetime missions and combat operations. They will also improve responses to potential threats including high-speed coastal craft, boats carrying explosives and terrorist attacks.

Defence Minister Robertas Kaunas said the agreement would bring modern technologies to Lithuania while strengthening the country’s defence capabilities and defence industry.
