Sinkevičius says he is not considering 2029 presidential run

Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius says he is not currently considering running in Lithuania’s 2029 presidential election, although he has not ruled out the possibility, LRT reported, citing an interview with the prime minister on the Verslo žinios podcast.

“My focus and work for the next two years are in the role of prime minister. I would like that period to strengthen the state. When the term ends in two years, I will think about what comes next,” Sinkevičius said.

“I rule nothing out, I do not reject or renounce anything. But I can honestly say one thing: I am really not thinking about it,” he added.

Liberal Movement leader Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen said in August that she had not ruled out a possible presidential bid. However, she said such discussions were still premature.

The presidential election is scheduled for May 2029.
