Tähe-Lee Liiv releases second solo album of Nordic piano music

Estonian pianist Tähe-Lee Liiv has released her second solo album through Italian label Da Vinci Classics, ERR reported. The album focuses on Nordic piano music and features works by Finnish composers Jean Sibelius, Einojuhani Rautavaara and Magnus Lindberg.

Da Vinci Classics approached Liiv with the proposal after she recently received a young musician award. The album follows her debut, Diagrammid, released three years ago and featuring Arvo Pärt’s complete piano works.

Liiv recorded the new album at a studio near Crema in Italy. She said the studio, piano, sound engineer and surrounding landscape all contributed to an inspiring recording environment.

She said the selection brings together three generations of composers, from the well-known Sibelius to the more contemporary Rautavaara and Lindberg. Liiv studied at the Sibelius Academy for several years before moving to universities abroad, and said one of her teachers introduced her to Rautavaara’s music.

Liiv, who is studying in both London and Berlin, is also continuing her training with a private teacher in Italy. She will perform for Estonian audiences on Wednesday at the Estonia Concert Hall with a chamber orchestra in a programme featuring Bach.
