Karis appoints Julika Luts to EU security committee

Estonian President Alar Karis has appointed Julika Luts as Estonia’s new representative in the European Union’s Political and Security Committee, ERR reported.

The committee is a permanent ambassador-level working group where member states coordinate EU foreign and security policy and prepare decisions for the Foreign Affairs Council.

Luts will replace Ambassador Lauri Kuusing, who is returning to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Luts currently works as a personal assistant in the office of EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas. She has previously held various positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Estonia’s Permanent Representation to the European Union in Brussels, and served as deputy head of Estonia’s embassy in Turkey.
