Von Krahl Theatre announces new season and Drama Theatre collaboration

Von Krahl Theatre will present several new productions in its 34th season and collaborate with the Estonian Drama Theatre for the first time, ERR reports.

“We opened our 34th season with Triin Ruumet’s discussion-provoking reality show and are continuing in the same spirit,” Von Krahl artistic director Juhan Ulfsak said at the season presentation. “The next productions will also grapple with reality from one angle or another: does theatre convey reality or recreate it every evening on its own terms, and can the two still be distinguished after the applause?”

In November, performance artist Mart Kangro and Priit Põldma, a recent recipient of the President’s Young Cultural Figure Award, will appear at Von Krahl’s small hall. Their production, Parody, explores identity, context and how an audience changes what and how people speak. It premieres on November 6.

In early December, Ingomar Vihmar’s original production It Is Not So As It Seems to You will premiere. The production is described as a confessional look at the meaning and meaninglessness of theatre and life, and tells a story about actors, directors, ordinary people and God. The cast includes the Von Krahl troupe, Mari Abel, Ester Kuntu and Juhan Ulfsak. The premiere is scheduled for December 2.

New productions are also expected at Von Krahl at the beginning of next year from Liisa Saaremäel and Kristel Zimmer, the male members of the Von Krahl troupe, and Elle Vies, director of the 2025 Best Dance Production.

Von Krahl Theatre will also join forces with the Estonian Drama Theatre for the first time. The planned collaborative production by Juhan Ulfsak, Eero Epner and Mart Kangro will tell stories in a space where nothing is as it was, yet everything is even more the same than before.

The programme at Von Krahl’s bar will continue, while the Estonian Association of Architects will launch the monthly architecture quiz Arhivoor in October. From November 10 to 18, PÖFF Shorts will take over the bar and screen short and animated films in dozens of genres over nine days.

Before that, Von Krahl will mark its 34th anniversary on October 31 with the eight-hour performance event Goodbye, Jussike! and concerts by I Am Bob, Vigri and Volta.
