LTV spotlights Latvia First ahead of Saeima election

Latvia’s public broadcaster LTV is focusing its election programme on the Latvia First party, LSM reported. The programme is part of a series designed to give voters a broader view of political parties’ platforms and proposals before the 15th Saeima election.

The series includes political forces that had at least 2% support in an SKDS public opinion survey at the beginning of August. Each programme invites leaders of party lists from the five electoral districts, holding positions one, two or three on their lists.

The broadcasts also include an analysis of each party’s actual record over the past four years, where applicable, and voters’ views of the party. The series examines whether campaign promises are merely a way to attract voters’ attention or a genuine basis for holding politicians accountable.

Election schedule

The 15th Saeima election will take place on Saturday, October 3. Polling stations will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and voters will be able to cast their ballots at any polling station.

Fourteen candidate lists have been submitted for the election. Early voting will be available at all polling stations in Latvia from September 28 until election day, during designated morning and evening hours.

The newly elected 15th Saeima will hold its first sitting on November 3, when the current 14th Saeima’s term will end.
