Warm weekend will give way to rain and autumn chill in Lithuania

Summer-like warmth will linger in Lithuania over the weekend, with temperatures reaching up to 22 degrees Celsius in some places, but cooler and unsettled weather will arrive early next week, LRT reports, citing forecaster Teresė Kaunienė of the Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service.

Saturday night will be variably cloudy, with brief rain expected in many areas. Southerly and southwesterly winds will reach 8 to 13 metres per second in gusts.

Rain will also be possible during the day on Saturday, but sunshine will break through the clouds, especially in southern Lithuania. Brief, light rain is most likely in northern and western districts. Temperatures will range from 9 to 14 degrees overnight and rise to 17 to 22 degrees during the day. Southwesterly winds will strengthen to 9 to 14 metres per second, with gusts of 15 to 17 metres per second possible in western districts.

Cloud cover will increase on Sunday night, bringing heavier rain to western and northern Lithuania. Southwesterly winds will remain strong, with gusts along the coast reaching 15 to 17 metres per second. Temperatures will stay relatively high, at 11 to 16 degrees.

During the day, a wavy cold atmospheric front will move across the country. Heavy rain will affect most of Lithuania, with particularly intense rainfall possible in the southwest and thunderstorms possible in some places during the afternoon. Southwesterly winds will reach 8 to 13 metres per second, with coastal gusts of up to 15 to 17 metres per second. Temperatures will reach 16 to 18 degrees in western and northern districts and 19 to 22 degrees in the south and southeast.

Little change is expected overnight into Monday. The night will be cloudy and rainy, with heavy showers possible in central and eastern districts. Southwesterly and westerly winds will reach 8 to 13 metres per second, while coastal gusts will reach 15 to 18 metres per second. Temperatures will fall to 9 to 14 degrees.

Monday will be cloudy with some clear spells and intermittent cold, heavy rain. Strong westerly winds will persist across much of the country, while the coast will see gusty northwesterly winds. Daytime temperatures will reach only 13 to 18 degrees.

More clear spells are forecast for Tuesday. Brief light rain is possible in places overnight and in many areas during the day. Winds will shift from westerly and northwesterly at night to northerly during the day. Temperatures will fall to 5 to 10 degrees overnight, or 11 to 13 degrees on the coast, and rise to 13 to 18 degrees during the day.
