Estonia’s reserve centre seeks partners for 31 crisis-shop generators

Estonia has 60 fuel stations and 79 shops equipped to operate during power cuts, ERR reported. The number of designated crisis shops is expected to rise to 110 by the end of the year.

More than 550 fuel stations operate in Estonia, of which about 10 percent have been designated crisis stations. They hold larger fuel reserves than other stations and have generators for emergencies, said Priit Ploompuu, a board member of the Estonian reserve centre.

“Already today, there are about 60 fuel stations with enhanced crisis preparedness that can dispense fuel during a power outage,” Ploompuu said.

The reserve centre has contracts with 79 shops, leaving 31 more needed to meet the year-end target. It is seeking volunteers willing to join the programme and connect a generator supplied by the reserve centre to their shop.

“We have 31 generators waiting. We need partners who would be ready to connect one to their premises,” Ploompuu said.

He called on shop owners, local government representatives and residents who want a crisis shop nearby to help advance the project by taking part in the ongoing procurement process.
