Vilnius hosts journalism forum and Donskis memorial conference

Vilnius will host the sixth Romo Sakadolskis Journalism Forum and the ninth Leonidas Donskis Memorial Conference on Friday, LRT reports.

The journalism forum, held at the MO Museum, will bring together journalists, experts and researchers to discuss changes in the media, its responsibilities, science communication, the impact of artificial intelligence and the situation of the public broadcaster.

The programme includes discussions titled “What the fight over LRT taught us” and “Who represents science?” Participants will include journalist Rita Miliūtė, 15min head Tomas Balžekas, Professor Andrius Vaišnys, neuroscientist Laura Bojarskaitė and experts from communications and other fields.

Public relations expert Mykolas Katkus, 15min editor-in-chief Vaidotas Beniušis and Delfi editor-in-chief Rasa Lukaitytė-Vnarauskienė will discuss artificial intelligence in the media.

The forum will conclude with the presentation of the annual Romo Sakadolskis Journalism Awards for work in factual, opinion, entertainment, investigative and cultural journalism.

Romas Sakadolskis was a Lithuanian and US journalist, a longtime Voice of America correspondent and head of its Lithuanian service. He also taught journalism at Vytautas Magnus University and Vilnius University.

The ninth international Leonidas Donskis Memorial Conference, titled “The Return of Great Power Politics: A New Era for Small and Medium-Sized Countries,” will take place at the Lithuanian National Martynas Mažvydas Library.

Participants will examine the position of small and medium-sized countries amid growing geopolitical uncertainty, as well as their ability to build alliances and influence international politics. The issues will be considered from political, historical, cultural and geopolitical perspectives.

Participants will include Natasha Kuhrt, an expert on Russia-China relations and international security; Emilija Pundziūtė-Gallois, who researches Russian diplomacy and European security; international risks expert Thibault Fouillet; and Russia’s foreign and security policy expert Domitilla Sagramoso.

Leonidas Donskis was a Lithuanian philosopher, cultural historian, essayist, public figure and former member of the European Parliament. He wrote extensively about politics, identity, memory and European culture.
