Long-time journalist and politician Heimar Lenk turns 80 on Thursday, ERR reports.
Lenk was born in Tallinn on September 17, 1946. He studied economics at the Tallinn Polytechnic Institute and television journalism by distance learning at Moscow State University.
He worked for Estonian Radio and Estonian Television from 1974 to 1983. From 1983 to 1995, he was a correspondent for the Central Television of the Soviet Union in Estonia. He also worked for several newspapers and produced radio programmes.
Lenk joined the Centre Party in 1994 and served as a member of the Riigikogu, Estonia’s parliament, from 2003 to 2019.
ERR’s archive includes footage of Lenk interviewing Elton John on an express train in 1979, as well as his appearances on the programmes “Pealtnägija” in 2021 and “Prillitoos” in 2020. In 2024, he appeared in the New Year’s episode of the television series “Õnne 13”.
