Nausėda says Russia may deliberately let drones stray off course

President Gitanas Nausėda said drone incidents in Europe were another Kremlin attempt to punish countries supporting Ukraine, LRT reported.

He said the list of drone incidents in Europe was not complete and that Russia’s behaviour was becoming increasingly aggressive.

“Not wanting to confront NATO directly, Russia is trying to attack the countries that are the strongest supporters of Ukraine,” Nausėda said in an interview with LRT television.

He said Russia could carry out such incidents in various, mostly disguised ways.

“Such incidents, including the drone shot down quite recently and other drones, do not necessarily mean a direct Russian attack against NATO. The Russians are probably not prepared for that and do not want it at this stage. But a drone could be deliberately allowed to stray off course and enter not necessarily Lithuania, but the territory of the Baltic states or Poland, in order to keep society under pressure. There is no doubt that this is beneficial to Russia,” the president said.
