Jupiter streams Rao Heidmets’ wild puppet film Dove Aunt

ERR’s Culture Portal recommends Rao Heidmets’ 1983 puppet film “Dove Aunt” as the director celebrates his 70th birthday. The children’s fairy tale is driven by the idea that goodness will ultimately prevail.

The film opens with Dove Aunt feeding birds. A cat appears and scares them away, followed by a schoolboy with a diary under his arm. The cat teases the boy, who throws a stone at it. A thief then leaves a house carrying suitcases filled with stolen goods. Dove Aunt takes out a whistle and blows it.

“Dove Aunt” was directed by Rao Heidmets, with a screenplay by Vladislav Koržets and Priit Pärn. Tõnu Talivee was the cinematographer, Priit Pärn the artist and Olav Ehala the composer.
