Klaipėda to renovate Donelaitis Square for €1.17 million

Klaipėda, a port city, plans to begin renovating Kristijonas Donelaitis Square within the next month, with the work expected to take six months, LRT reports.

The city has signed a €1.17 million construction contract with Klaistvita for the project.

Preparations to hand over the construction site will begin soon, and the first work is expected to start in October. The initial stage will involve earthworks, with the subsequent schedule depending on weather conditions and material deliveries.

Granite, clinker bricks and split stone will be used for the square’s new surface. All existing trees will be preserved, while the landscaping will be supplemented with plants typical of the flower gardens of Lithuania Minor, including lilacs, mock oranges and peonies.

The square will also be adapted for people with different needs. Ramps, guidance paths and warning surfaces will improve access for people with disabilities, people with impaired vision, parents with prams and other visitors.

New benches, upgraded lighting and video surveillance cameras will also be installed.
