Jõulutunnel seeks organisations for charity programme

Estonian public broadcaster ETV’s charity programme Jõulutunnel is accepting proposals from organisations until October 9, ERR reported. The programme is seeking partners to address important concerns in Estonia and provide support.

Jõulutunnel has focused for decades on issues and fields that need broader attention and public discussion. Since 1999, viewer donations have supported medical treatment for children and adults, low income families, cancer medicines and various medical devices, while also highlighting important social issues.

“We welcome proposals from the social, health and cultural sectors,” producer Margus Saar said. He added that, alongside charity, one of the programme’s aims was to encourage public discussion.

The equipment, activity or solution funded through viewer donations should have a wide impact. The charitable aim must be clearly understood and the result measurable.

“It is important that the theme of Jõulutunnel has broad relevance and that as many people as possible benefit from the donations,” Saar said. The programme’s partner should therefore operate broadly, with support accessible to people in different parts of Estonia.

Last year, Jõulutunnel worked with the Children’s Foundation of Tartu University Hospital. More than 370,000 euros was raised through phone donations to support the treatment of children with rare diseases. The charity programme was also broadcast on ETV+ alongside ETV.
