Lithuania to build €12 million CAESAR repair workshops

Lithuania will establish specialised workshops to repair CAESAR artillery systems made by French company KNDS France, LRT reported. The Ministry of National Defence said Wednesday that it had signed an industrial cooperation agreement with the French company.

Investment in repair infrastructure and specialised equipment is expected to total €12 million.

The workshops will repair critical electronic and hydraulic components of the CAESAR systems, allowing the work to be carried out in Lithuania and shortening maintenance and repair times.

Defence Minister Robertas Kaunas said Lithuania was the first country in the world to which France had transferred technological expertise for repairing the systems’ electronic and hydraulic components. He said the transfer of technology and expertise to Lithuania’s defence industry would strengthen its independence and resilience.

The Ministry of National Defence said the agreement would expand Lithuania’s defence industry’s technological capabilities, create high-value expertise in the country and strengthen the resilience of the European defence industry. The new capacity is also expected to ensure the technical readiness of the entire CAESAR fleet operated by the Lithuanian Armed Forces.
