Lithuania turns back 15 migrants at Belarus border

Lithuanian border guards turned back 15 irregular migrants at the country’s border with Belarus over the past day, LRT reported, citing the State Border Guard Service.

Latvian border guards turned back 29 migrants on Tuesday, while Polish authorities recorded one attempt to cross the border illegally on Monday.

More than 1,500 irregular migrants have been denied entry to Lithuania so far this year.

Last year, people attempted to enter Lithuania from Belarus through unauthorised locations more than 1,600 times. The figure was 1,002 the year before.

Since the start of the migration crisis caused by Belarus, Lithuanian border guards have prevented 26,000 foreigners from entering the country illegally.

The influx of migrants from Belarus to the eastern European Union member states began in 2021. Western countries accuse the Minsk regime of organising it.
