Mass brawl in Kohtla-Järve leaves 21-year-old dead

A 21-year-old man died after a mass brawl in Kohtla-Järve on Sunday evening, ERR reported. Police have detained three people suspected of involvement in the crime.

The man was injured at the scene and died on the way to hospital after paramedics were unable to save him. The exact nature of his injuries and the cause of death are being established.

A 23-year-old man and a 19-year-old man also needed medical attention at the scene. The younger man was taken to hospital for examination. A 17-year-old who was injured in the incident went to hospital himself during the night.

Police have not ruled out the possibility that other people were injured but have not yet been identified. “We know that others did not suffer serious injuries, but we cannot rule out the possibility that there are other victims,” said Nikita Golovin, head of the Jõhvi police station. He urged anyone involved in the conflict to provide information.

According to police, around 20 men gathered in an isolated location to settle a dispute linked to a conflict between two groups on Friday.

Police are seeking three men known from previous offences: 50-year-old Konstantin, 46-year-old Sergei and 25-year-old Roman. Golovin said many of those involved in the brawl had previously come to police attention for various offences.

Police said the brawl took place in a secluded part of Endla Street in Kohtla-Järve’s Järve district, rather than in a crowded location. Golovin said the incident was an exception in Ida-Viru County and that ordinary residents should not feel threatened while moving around Kohtla-Järve.
