Stockmann Tallinn to replace fourth-floor retail space with 24-hour gym
Stockmann department store in Tallinn will move its retail operations from four floors to three, ERR reported on Monday, as the fourth floor is converted into a 1,200-square-metre, 24-hour gym operated by the Gym! chain, part of My Fitness Group.
Construction is scheduled to begin at the start of next year, with the gym expected to open in the autumn. Stockmann Tallinn director Priit Peterson said the department store’s fashion, beauty, home and food categories would be reorganised across the first three floors.
“All existing departments and product categories will remain; nothing will be removed from the range,” Peterson told ERR. He said the departments would be arranged more compactly and logically, making everything customers need easier to access.
The changes will mainly affect the second and third floors. Stockmann will remain open throughout the renovation, and an international fashion brand is also expected to join the department store soon.
Sten Pisang, chairman of the board of the company that owns the complex, said significant investments had been made in the buildings and their surroundings since the company acquired them, with plans focused on the long term.
Changes to the complex began in 2023 on the fifth floor, where health and beauty services and retail were brought together. The floor houses the Medicum private healthcare centre, Silmalaser eye clinic, a beauty clinic and salon, and Instrumentarium.
Complex chief executive Antti Adur said the addition of sports services would create a strong concept spanning two floors. “Gym! is the first specific step in the fourth floor’s new phase and in the modernisation of the entire building,” Adur said.
The owner plans to invest about four million euros in developing the complex and its surroundings. The investment will cover the modernisation of different floors, the addition of new services and stronger links between the building, the surrounding urban space and other buildings in the Uus-Maakri quarter.
Stockmann is part of Lindex Group plc, which is listed on Nasdaq Helsinki. The company Maakri Holding OÜ, which owns the Stockmann quarter, is part of P&E Real Estate’s property portfolio, which also includes the Telliskivi TLN business campus, Solaris Centre and the Karamelli 6 office building.
