Interior Ministry proposes redrawing Kaišiadorys and 94 village boundaries

The Interior Ministry has proposed changing the boundaries of Kaišiadorys town and 94 villages in the Kaišiadorys district, abolishing one village and renaming another, LRT reported. The proposal still requires government approval, which is expected next week.

The Obuchovka village in the Žasliai local administrative district would be abolished, and its 16.92-hectare territory would be transferred to the village of Žuvai.

The ministry said Obuchovka has effectively disappeared. It has one registered plot of land but no buildings, residents or developed infrastructure.

Mičiūnai village in the Paparčiai local administrative district would be renamed Miciūnai. According to the ministry, the current name does not reflect local language traditions or residents’ expectations.

The boundaries of other settlements in the Kaišiadorys district, including Kaišiadorys town, would also be adjusted.

The ministry said the changes are needed because the boundaries and names of some settlements do not correspond to the actual situation. This creates uncertainty when determining the location of real estate, assigning addresses and declaring places of residence.

The decisions were based on proposals from the Kaišiadorys District Municipality Council and residents’ views. In a 2022 survey, 97.46 percent of participating residents supported the proposed boundary changes and the clarification of the village name.

The ministry said the changes would make it easier to determine addresses and declare places of residence while ensuring that settlement boundaries comply with legal requirements.
