Lithuania turns back 14 irregular migrants at Belarus border

Lithuanian border guards turned back 14 irregular migrants at the country’s border with Belarus over the past day, LRT reported on Friday, citing the State Border Guard Service.

Latvian border guards turned back 50 migrants on Thursday, while Polish authorities recorded 24 attempts to enter the country illegally on Wednesday.

More than 1,400 irregular migrants have been denied entry to Lithuania so far this year. Last year, people attempted to enter the country illegally from Belarus more than 1,600 times, compared with 1,002 attempts the year before.

Since the start of the migration crisis caused by Belarus, Lithuanian border guards have prevented 26,000 foreigners from entering the country illegally.

The influx of migrants from Belarus to the EU’s eastern member states began in 2021. Western countries accuse the Belarusian regime of organising it.
