Lithuania turns back 23 migrants at Belarus border

Lithuania turned back 23 migrants attempting to enter from Belarus over the past 24 hours, LRT reported, citing the State Border Guard Service.

Latvian border guards turned back 97 migrants on Wednesday, while Poland recorded 14 attempts to enter the country illegally on Tuesday.

More than 1,400 migrants have been denied entry to Lithuania this year. Last year, migrants attempted to enter the country from Belarus at prohibited locations more than 1,600 times, compared with 1,002 attempts the year before.

Since the start of the migration crisis created by Belarus, Lithuanian border guards have prevented 26,000 foreigners from entering the country illegally.

The influx of migrants from Belarus to the eastern European Union member states began in 2021. Western countries accuse the Minsk regime of organising it.
