Jaan Tätte’s play Night to premiere at Tallinn City Theatre

Jaan Tätte’s original play “Night” will premiere at Tallinn City Theatre on September 12, ERR reported. Directed by Peeter Tammearu, the production will be staged in the theatre’s Taevasaal hall.

The play was written specifically for the theatre’s actors. It is Tätte’s first play to premiere at Tallinn City Theatre in 20 years.

“Night” follows a group of elderly former classmates who gather at a wealthy man’s house after receiving an unexpected invitation. As they revisit innocent memories from school, a dark episode from their shared past begins to emerge.

“I tried to make it interesting for both the director and the actors to think about what it is like to be over 80, because people of very different ages can be found within that age group,” Tätte said. He added that he imagined bringing together characters from very different social backgrounds who had not met for 60 years.

“I like to think about how much of the child they remember is still left in this old person,” Tätte said.

The production’s set designer is Martin Mikson, with music and sound design by Veiko Tubin. Emil Kallas is responsible for lighting, Anu Konze for makeup and Tom Tristan Kidron for video.

The cast includes Epp Eespäev, Piret Kalda, Allan Noormets, Egon Nuter, Andres Raag, Ursula Ratasepp, Anne Reemann, Simo Andre Kadastu and Elisabet Reinsalu.
