Government allocates extra 10 million euros for care of people with severe disabilities

The Lithuanian government has allocated an additional 10 million euros for social care services for people with severe disabilities, LRT reported on Wednesday.

The funds will come from money borrowed in the name of the state.

The Finance Ministry said the need for additional funding had not been known when the 2026 to 2028 state budget was prepared, so the funds were not included in the draft budget law.

The Ministry of Social Security and Labour said funding was already short for the third quarter of this year. After surveying municipalities and calculating needs for the second half of the year, it estimated a shortfall of 62.7 million euros.

The state budget includes 140.6 million euros for these services, while the estimated need is 203.3 million euros.

During the first half of the year, social care services were provided to 17,600 people with severe disabilities. In 2025, 156.1 million euros was allocated for their care services, which reached 17,200 people.
