Artist Al Paldrok has opened the exhibition Extravaganza at the Telliskivi 51a pop-up gallery, ERR reported. The opening also featured fashion designer Eliise Saar’s Saar Wars show.

Held in the former Headshop premises in Telliskivi, the exhibition is described by its organisers as a site-specific studio exhibition rather than a traditional white cube. It features extravagant works from different periods, including objects, graphics and videos from this year’s I Land Sound festival, where the Non Grata group led the construction of a 12-metre fire sculpture.

“At a time when exhibition periods in official art galleries are getting longer and the former standard two-week cycles have been replaced by periods lasting several months, reducing the number of exhibitions and artists presented by more than half, empty commercial and alternative spaces and warehouses must be put to use,” the organisers said.

The exhibition invites visitors to participate in the art both as models and as members of the audience. Saar’s special Saar Wars collection was presented at the opening.

“Saar Wars fashion fights overconsumption and mass production by creating unique and multifunctional products from factory leftovers and old fabrics belonging to grandmothers that would otherwise end up in landfill,” Saar said.

The exhibition will remain open until the end of September.
