Threats to bomb Women’s Information Centre reported in Vilnius

Threats to bomb the Women’s Information Centre in Vilnius were reported on Monday, LRT reported. The centre said on Facebook that it had received threats.

Julija Samorokovskaja, a spokeswoman for the Vilnius County Chief Police Commissariat, told ELTA that the centre received two emails at around 10 a.m. threatening to blow up the building.

One email, written in Russian, said the explosion would take place two hours after the message was sent. According to the police, the centre told officers that the threatening email had also been sent to several other organisations.

The centre said the message also threatened to use firearms and blades against women, and was signed by a group calling itself the “Men’s Resistance Front”.

Police have begun collecting information for a pre-trial investigation under Article 285, Paragraph 1 of Lithuania’s Criminal Code. The provision covers falsely reporting or spreading information about a danger or major disaster when emergency services are called. It carries a possible penalty of community service, a fine, restriction of liberty, arrest or up to one year in prison.
