LSM.lv and Latvijas Radio are inviting people to share experiences and ideas for reducing unnecessary bureaucracy in state and municipal institutions as part of their “Meaningful bureaucracy” project.
The project aims to highlight systemic problems that hinder people from working, living, receiving assistance or developing in Latvia. This month, the media outlets are focusing on bureaucracy in public institutions and their dealings with residents, LSM.lv reported.
Residents are encouraged to describe unreasonable bureaucratic procedures and suggest possible solutions. The project team says it will look for ways to eliminate unnecessary bureaucracy that restricts people’s activities.
The organisers said they have already produced several stories based on experiences and recommendations submitted by listeners and portal users, and have urged state institutions to change bureaucratic procedures.
Submissions will not be made public as personal information. People may optionally provide their contact details so that public media journalists can follow up and prepare a story about the problem. Submitted reports will be published after the information has been checked.
