ERR reported that coach Mihkel Vabrit says animal-inspired movements such as bear walks, penguin walks and monkey walks can be incorporated into training to improve balance, endurance and strength.

“People are said to have evolved from apes. Exercises that imitate animal walks or behavioural patterns train balance, endurance and strength quite well,” Vabrit told the Terevisioon television programme. He said bodyweight exercises are currently popular again.

Before starting the exercises, people should warm up, and Vabrit said the best way to do that is with a penguin walk. “Whenever it gets difficult, you can say ‘mõmm’,” he added.
