LSM Starts, media, youth development

Latvian Public Media is inviting young people to apply by September 20 for LSM Starts, a new development project that combines the existing Latvian Radio 5 DJ School and Media Academy, LSM reported.

The project offers two tracks, a Radio DJ programme and a Multimedia programme. Participants will learn the fundamentals of the media industry free of charge, study with experienced radio, television and digital media professionals, and develop practical skills in a modern media environment.

“LSM Starts is an investment in the future of Latvia’s media,” said Ieva Aile, a board member responsible for programme and service development. She said the project would give motivated young people the opportunity to explore the work of journalists, DJs and digital content creators, while allowing LSM to better understand young people’s needs and test new ideas and content.

The programme will begin on October 5, 2026, and will combine theoretical and practical classes. Participants in both tracks will complete a shared core curriculum covering improvisation, critical thinking, speech development, journalism, directing, creative thinking, programme production, marketing and social media content creation.

After completing the introductory curriculum, participants will continue with classes specific to their chosen track.

Radio DJ programme

The Radio DJ programme is intended for people aged 16 to 25 who are interested in radio, music and content creation. It aims to encourage young people’s interest in the media industry and help aspiring on-air professionals develop their skills.

The programme will run from October 5, 2026, to January 25, 2027, and will accept six participants. Applications may be submitted individually or in pairs or groups of three.

During the programme, participants will study public speaking, interview production, the principles of selecting news and reliable information, and sound editing.
