Lithuania turns back two migrants at Belarus border

Lithuanian border guards turned back two irregular migrants at the country’s border with Belarus over the past 24 hours, LRT reported on Saturday, citing the State Border Guard Service.

Latvian border guards turned back seven migrants on Friday, while Polish authorities recorded no attempts to enter the country illegally on Thursday.

Nearly 1,400 irregular migrants have been denied entry to Lithuania this year. Last year, people attempted to enter the country illegally from Belarus at unauthorised locations more than 1,600 times. The figure was 1,002 the year before.

Since the start of the migration crisis linked to Belarus, Lithuanian border guards have prevented 26,000 foreigners from entering the country illegally.

The influx of migrants from Belarus to the eastern EU member states began in 2021. Western countries accuse the Minsk regime of organising it.
