Cyclone brings heavy rain and strong winds to Lithuania

Heavy rain and strong winds are expected across Lithuania this weekend as cyclone clouds move across the country, LRT reported, citing forecaster Edita Gečaitė of the Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service. Wetter conditions are expected to ease and temperatures to rise early next week.

Rain-bearing cyclone clouds will move across Lithuania on Saturday night, with the heaviest rain expected in the southern and western districts. Southwesterly and westerly winds will strengthen, with gusts of 15 to 20 metres per second in some areas.

Rain will continue during the day, with showers expected across almost the entire country and thunderstorms possible in some places. Wind gusts will reach 15 to 20 metres per second in many districts and up to 23 metres per second on the coast.

Temperatures will fall to 10 to 15 degrees Celsius overnight on Saturday and rise to 14 to 19 degrees during the day.

Sunday night will remain rainy, although the wind will ease. Stronger gusts of 15 to 17 metres per second will persist on the coast, while temperatures will drop to 9 to 14 degrees.

Rain will affect most of the country on Sunday, but showers will be brief. Temperatures will rise to 17 to 21 degrees during the day.

Conditions are expected to improve on Monday. The chance of rain will be low overnight, while brief showers may occur only in isolated areas during the day. Temperatures will range from 8 to 13 degrees overnight, reaching 14 to 16 degrees on the coast, and rise to 17 to 22 degrees during the day.

Tuesday night is expected to be dry as clouds clear, with light southerly winds. Temperatures will fall to 8 to 13 degrees, or around 15 degrees on the coast. Brief rain may affect western districts during the day, but most of the country will remain dry and pleasantly warm, with temperatures reaching 19 to 23 degrees.
