Estonian label Dieu Huit Records has released “Viimaste Asjade Teadus”, a 17 track poetry album by Kosmos and Dew8, the stage names of Siim Sinamäe and Siim Parisoo, ERR reported.
Sinamäe said the album explores the space between poetry and hip hop.
“The album maps the grey area between the two genres. It is an attempt to capture the place and moment where poetry becomes hip hop,” said Sinamäe, who has previously published poetry collections and taken part in the nihilist.fm and Disco Elysium projects.
Parisoo described the album as a soundtrack to an unstaged musical, combining elements of a radio play, hip hop and poetry.
“Poetry needs a contemporary outlet. There is so much text in the world that people need to close their eyes and simply listen for a break from it. This is very, very fresh,” he said. The album is the 11th of his career.
Genka also appears on the album. He called it a format without precedent or an equivalent point of comparison.
“It is a poetry rap record,” Genka said. Margaret Kelomees provides backing vocals.
