Police arrest three men in Alytus, seize kilograms of drugs

Police in Alytus have arrested three men and seized kilograms of suspected drugs in a law enforcement operation, LRT reported. The drugs could have a street value of more than 80,000 euros, according to police.

On the evening of September 2, investigators arrested two Alytus residents, aged 31 and 35, in a car park on Jazminų Street. One had previously been convicted of robbery, while the other had no prior convictions or known record with law enforcement.

That same day, officers arrested another 35-year-old man on Naujoji Street, near the Alytus Sports and Recreation Centre. He had previously been convicted of drug-related offences.

Searches of the suspects’ cars, homes and a country homestead uncovered about 2 kilograms of a crystalline substance possibly containing the psychotropic drug 3-CMC, about 2 kilograms of cannabis and about 60 grams of suspected cocaine. Officers also seized more than 6,000 euros in cash and equipment used to weigh and package drugs.

Two suspects have been charged with unlawfully possessing a very large quantity of narcotic or psychotropic substances with the intent to distribute them. The prosecutor overseeing the investigation has asked the Alytus District Court to detain them.

The third suspect was charged with unlawfully possessing narcotic or psychotropic substances without the intent to distribute them. He was placed under less restrictive measures, including a written undertaking not to leave and the seizure of his documents.
