International comic exhibition challenges Nordic and Baltic myths

ERR reports that the international Nordic and Baltic comic exhibition Mythbústers opened on Thursday in the foyer of the Estonian Academy of Arts.

The exhibition explores the ideas and stereotypes commonly associated with the region, including trolls and Vikings, the midnight sun and polar nights, saunas and winter swimming, hygge and fika, Nokia and IKEA.

Sixteen comic artists from across the Nordic and Baltic countries created works reflecting their own unique perspectives on life in the region.

The participating artists are Akvile Magicdusté from Lithuania, Cecilia Vårhed and Disa Wallander from Sweden, Clara Jetsmark and Søren Glosimodt Mosdal from Denmark, Elín Elísabet from Iceland, Emmi Valve and Mari Ahokoivu from Finland, Ida Neverdahl and Tim Ng Tvedt from Norway, Joonas Sildre and Liisa Kruusmägi from Estonia, Jurijs Tatarkins from Latvia, Laura Ženiņš from Canada, Ona Kvašytė from Lithuania and Tommi Musturi from Finland. The curator is David Schilter from Latvia.

The exhibition is accompanied by issue 57 of the Baltic comic magazine Š!, titled Mythbústers, which contains all the works on display.

The exhibition will remain open until October 4.
