LRT reports that Lithuania’s Interior Ministry plans to announce a competition next week for the head of the Department of Informatics and Communications.

Interior Minister Martynas Katelynas said the new director would be responsible not only for managing large-scale information systems infrastructure but also for initiating and implementing significant organisational and technological changes.

“The Interior Ministry’s information systems and registers are directly linked to our national security and the ability of law enforcement, migration, public security and other institutions to perform their functions without interruption,” Katelynas said in a statement.

“We are therefore looking not for an administrator who would oversee the current situation, but for a strong leader capable of improving it,” he added.

The competition is expected to be announced next Wednesday. Artūras Kavolis is currently serving as the department’s acting head.
