Pevkur to attend government press conference after announcing resignation

ERR reports that Prime Minister Kristen Michal and four ministers will attend the government’s post-meeting press conference on Thursday, including Defence Minister Hanno Pevkur, who has announced his resignation.

The press conference, which begins at noon, will also feature Education and Science Minister Kristina Kallas, Social Affairs Minister Karmen Joller and Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna. It will be broadcast live on the ERR portal.

Pevkur said on Wednesday evening on the television programme Aktuaalne kaamera that he would step down because of problems that had emerged in the defence sector.

His resignation must be approved by the Riigikogu, Estonia’s parliament. As the parliament’s regular autumn session begins on September 14, Pevkur will remain defence minister at least until mid-September.
