Nausėda convenes meeting on response to storm damage

President Gitanas Nausėda is holding a meeting at the Presidential Palace on measures to address the consequences of recent storms, LRT reported.

The meeting will discuss the main measures needed to tackle problems caused by the storms. Participants include Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius, Energy Minister Lukas Savickas, Finance Minister Taurimas Valys, State Energy Regulatory Council Chairman Renatas Pocius, and the mayors of Anykščiai, Utena and Molėtai districts.

A severe storm hit Lithuania on August 22, leaving around 268,000 customers of energy distribution company Energijos skirstymo operatorius, or ESO, without electricity, according to BNS.

Valys said earlier this week that the storm’s financial impact on ESO would amount to about 17 million euros. Around 10 million euros would be needed to restore the electricity network, while approximately 5 million euros would cover compensation for customers who were without electricity for more than 72 hours.

The remaining 2 million euros would cover residents’ direct losses, including spoiled food and damaged equipment, as well as fuel, generators and other essential expenses.
